Claudia, a
sophomore at James Bowie High School, won The Student of the Month award April
15, 2015. “Its very unreal that I won student of the month, I didn’t think
anyone would vote for me.”
To win
student of the month a teacher or staff member must nominate you and the
students vote on the choices.
“Claudia is
a wonderful student, she works very hard and its obvious she does. She nice to
everyone and always helps other students who are struggling.” Mrs. White,
Claudia’s Algebra II teacher.
Most of the
winners of Student of the month are in extracurricular activities. They are
usually in honor societies or clubs. “I believe that Student of the Month
nominees should be in extracurricular activities or clubs, maybe even tutor
other students. It shows how invested they are in the school.” Mr. Reyes, The
Principal of James Bowie High School.
Claudia doesn’t
tutor students after or before school but she’s on a sports team and in one
club. “When I’m not at home doing school work I’m playing baseball after school
with my friends and I go to the art club once a week.”
189 people
voted for Claudia, most were happy and they thought she deserved it, except for
Penelope Silverstein. “I deserved Student of the Month, not Claudia. I’m in
more clubs and I’m actually the president of one and I participate in many
extracurricular activities.
“Claudia
only won because most of the sophomore class is following her on twitter, she
posted so many photos and tweets about voting for her. This was just a
popularity contest.” Kendal Peters, a supporter of Penelope.
