Student of the Month Final

Who – Claudia
What – Student of the Month Recipient, April 15, 2015
Where – James Bowie High School
When – April 29, 2015
Why – She won Student of the month because she is very studious and friendly
How – She got the most votes

Claudia, a sophomore at James Bowie High School, won The Student of the Month award April 15, 2015. “Its very unreal that I won student of the month, I didn’t think anyone would vote for me.”

To win student of the month a teacher or staff member must nominate you and the students vote on the choices.

“Claudia is a wonderful student, she works very hard and its obvious she does. She nice to everyone and always helps other students who are struggling.” Mrs. White, Claudia’s Algebra II teacher.

Most of the winners of Student of the month are in extracurricular activities. They are usually in honor societies or clubs. “I believe that Student of the Month nominees should be in extracurricular activities or clubs, maybe even tutor other students. It shows how invested they are in the school.” Mr. Reyes, The Principal of James Bowie High School.

Claudia doesn’t tutor students after or before school but she’s on a sports team and in one club. “When I’m not at home doing school work I’m playing baseball after school with my friends and I go to the art club once a week.”

189 people voted for Claudia, most were happy and they thought she deserved it, except for Penelope Silverstein. “I deserved Student of the Month, not Claudia. I’m in more clubs and I’m actually the president of one and I participate in many extracurricular activities.

“Claudia only won because most of the sophomore class is following her on twitter, she posted so many photos and tweets about voting for her. This was just a popularity contest.” Kendal Peters, a supporter of Penelope.

Portfolio Analysis

Part 1

1.

Josh Birnbaum
  • Sports
  • They thought some of his photos were nothing special, they didn't like his angles, and they didn't like the repeating photos
  • They thought some of his photos were funny and some of the lighting
  • I really don't care for this photographer that much because I agree with the judges. I think his photos were really boring and super cliche.

Alyssa Schukar
  • Life
  • They thought some of her photos were mediocre and people have done better, it was a downer, and she didn't out the bulimia story first (the pictures were out of order).
  • They liked the lighting and the ways she cropped it
  • I don't really like her photos because she could have done better and the were a downer

Justin Mott
  • Stories, pictures from travels
  • Don't intentionally go out of focus, Show full faces and bodies, Learn how to build a portfolio better.
  • Nice quality photos, and good point of view
  • I liked these photos, and I think he was smart to take pictures of things that are hard to touch subjects on.

2. A. The judges liked how close he got to the subjects and they also liked how well he captured the moments and facial expressions on people's faces.B. I think the photographer had a lot of strengths like knowing when to center pictures and when to use the rule of thirds. I also think he did a really good job on framing photos. I don't see any weaknesses

3. In order to choose their winner, the judges had to go through all of the pictures sent in by the contestants, and count all of the good shots that each one had taken, and the one with the most, would win.

Part 2

1. I agree with the judges on the boxing photo because my eyes kept switching between the ref and the action that was going on

2. I disagree with the judges in part 2 because they rated the black and white photo second. Personally that photo was one of my least favorites and i would've made it maybe third place.

Architecture Shoot preview 2

Burj Al Arab

This is a good example for a detail photo because you are able to see the designs at the bottom of the pool and the different colors of the bottom of the pool.

This is a good example of light because they are using the natural light in the photo, the whole room is lit.

Iphone Photos

  1. My favorite photo is the one with ice and mount ions but across from it is a lucy green forest with flowers.
  2. It doesn't seem like these photos are taken with a phone, i feel like they edited it in some way or had accessories to enhance the photo.
  3. The apps they used enhanced the photos colors.
  4. When I'm taking photos with my phone i need to remember to leave enough space for the subject (when they are moving) and rule of thirds.

Action Photos

A young man runs home because he wants to eat a snack after school. If he eats too late he will not eat his dinner.

Eric is going to be late to class. If he's late one more time the teacher will give him a failing grade and a detention.

A teenager spins around with a bag on his neck because he thinks he looks cool, he does not look cool and should probably stop.
This is what the courtyard looks like when your spinning around, you will most likely fall on your butt afterwards.
