The started out like any other, a storm had just passed
through and a think layer of fog clung to the ground. It looked as if the world
was a black & white movie; the weather had sucked all the color from the
world. James was racing down the road; he was sweating nervously and kept
looking at his silver watch. James continuously told himself “ I have to get
there on time.” He kept looking around hoping the cops wouldn’t pull him over,
he was going well over the speed limit. As the minutes pass, he got antsy. As
he sped down the road he braked hard at a red light to let a train pass. James
grabbed his hair and yelled in frustration, today was not his day. After about
a few minutes the train was finally past and James could continue speeding to his
destination. The closer he got the fog started to disappear and the sun was
slowly creeping out to warm the damp earth. Once he got to church, he parked
right in front of the doors. He got out as fast as he could and sprinted
inside, just as he made it inside the minister was saying in a soft voice
“Speak now or forever hold your peace.” James didn’t need to speak; everyone
knew why he was there. He slowly walked toward the alter there the lovely
couple stood. James kept his eyes on April; the young bride. She didn’t even
turn her head to look at James, her eyes darted from the groom and down to her
hands. Mark; the groom, looked at James with a smirk like he had won the first
place prize, James glanced at him and felt sick to his stomach. All he wanted to
do was wipe that smirk off Mark’s face. April finally looked up at James, she
opened her mouth but shut it immediately. Her once bright blue eyes where now
darkened and filled with sadness. James clenched and unclenched his fists,
trying to hold back the bitter tears. Before Mark could taunt him with his
words, James turned and sulked out of the church. His world was becoming dark
again. April reached out to stop him, but Mark grabbed her wrist and pulled her
back to him. All she could muster out was “In another life.” Her voice was
filled with pain, Mark tightened his grip on her and glared at her.
